THE ARCHIVE COLLECTION

PRODUCT

What makes your flooring stand out?

Simply put, an authentic Stephen Gamble finish. This is a level of craftsmanship and depth of tone that can only be achieved through Stephen’s own time-honed process. Every plank is milled from ethically sourced hardwood and finished entirely in-house, ensuring consistency, character, and integrity from start to finish. These finishes are exclusive to Stephen Gamble and cannot be found elsewhere, offering a rare opportunity to bring his signature artistry and enduring quality into your home.

How do I determine if I should purchase Archive flooring or inquire about a custom project?

The Archive Collection is perfect for those seeking expertly crafted, high-quality made-to-order flooring with a curated selection of finishes and widths, ready to enhance a variety of spaces. However, if your project requires a unique width, texture, or a custom finish matched to an existing space, our custom flooring service may be the best fit.

For fully custom projects, we collaborate closely to create, manufacture, and oversee every detail—from concept through installation—to ensure our finishes meet the highest standards of craftsmanship. While flooring is a hallmark of our work, Stephen Gamble is equally celebrated for our exceptional hand-finished millwork, doors, and architectural wood elements. Much of our company’s time and resources are dedicated to this highly specialized work, where our old-world finishing techniques and deep understanding of wood yield results that are truly one of a kind.

Where should I start?

Getting started is simple! Begin by exploring The Archive Collection to find the finishes and widths that best suit your project. If you're unsure which option is right for you, ordering a sample box is a great way to see and feel the quality firsthand. For more information about how ordering works, visit our How It Works page.

Why should I order a sample box?

Ordering a sample box allows you to experience the craftsmanship, texture, and color of The Archive Collection in person. Seeing the wood in your space, under your lighting, helps ensure the perfect match for your design vision. It’s the best way to appreciate the quality and character of our flooring before making a final decision.

Can I view The Archive Collection in your showrooms?

Yes, you can visit our showroom or mill by appointment to explore The Archive Collection in person. However, we highly recommend ordering a sample box first, as it allows you to see how our finishes look and feel in your own space, under your lighting and alongside other design elements. This helps ensure the perfect match before making a final decision. To schedule a showroom or mill visit, please visit The Mill.

How much flooring should I order?

Getting the right amount of hardwood flooring is essential for a smooth installation process and a stunning finished look. Follow these simple steps to calculate how much flooring you’ll need, ensuring you have enough material for every corner of your space:

1. Measure Your Space

Start by measuring the length and width of the room (or rooms) where the flooring will be installed. Multiply these two numbers to find the total square footage, or use our coverage calculator. For irregularly shaped rooms, break the space into smaller rectangles, calculate the square footage for each, and add them together.

2. Account for a Waste Factor

When ordering hardwood flooring, it’s important to include extra material to account for cuts, mistakes, and selective installation. The waste factor you choose depends on the look you want:

  • Add 15% Waste for a More Natural Look
If you want your floor to showcase the natural character of the wood, like knots, color variations, and grain patterns, add 15% to your total square footage. This allows you to set aside pieces with extreme variations while keeping plenty of options for a cohesive appearance.
  • Add 20% Waste for a Cleaner, More Uniform Look
If you prefer flooring with fewer visible imperfections or more uniform color and texture, add 20% to your total square footage. This gives you flexibility to select only the most consistent boards for your space.

3. Round Up

Hardwood flooring is often sold in boxes covering a specific square footage. Always round up to ensure you have enough material on hand.

Shipping + logistics

What are your shipping costs?

Once your order is placed, our team will calculate an accurate shipping estimate based on your order details and destination. Depending on the specifics, we may coordinate with our trusted logistics partners or handle delivery ourselves. This approach ensures your flooring is transported with the highest level of care, maintaining its integrity while allowing us to provide the most accurate and cost-efficient pricing.

Shipping costs vary depending on order size, location, and delivery requirements. After your order is submitted, our team will review the details and provide a customized estimate before fulfillment. If you have any special delivery needs, we’re happy to work with you on a tailored shipping solution.

Where do you currently ship to?

We currently ship throughout the continental United States. Once your order is placed, our team will prepare a detailed shipping estimate based on your location and order specifications. If shipping costs exceed your expectations or budget, there is no obligation to proceed. Our goal is to make the process as seamless and transparent as possible, ensuring every project receives the care and attention it deserves, wherever it’s headed.

How long will shipping take?

Once your order is ready to ship, delivery typically takes 2–7 business days, depending on your location and shipping method. Please note that shipping time is separate from our made-to-order production lead time, which takes approximately 12 weeks. Our team will provide updates throughout the process to ensure you know when to expect your flooring.

What should I expect when my order arrives?

Upon receiving your order, please inspect all materials carefully for any signs of damage. Depending on the shipping method, whether delivered by our team or a trusted logistics partner, we recommend being on site for delivery or having your general contractor or foreperson present to ensure proper receipt and handling. If you notice anything concerning, contact our customer service team immediately so we can address it as quickly as possible. Prompt communication allows us to find the best solution for you. If no concerns are reported within 24 to 48 hours of delivery, the order will be considered accepted. Your satisfaction is our top priority, and we’re here to ensure your project starts off smoothly.

Can I cancel my order after receiving the shipping estimate?

Yes! Once you receive your shipping estimate, you’ll have the opportunity to review and approve it before your order is finalized. If you decide not to proceed at that stage, you may cancel your order without penalty. Once shipping has been confirmed and fulfillment is in progress, cancellations are limited.

ISSUES OR COMPLICATIONS WITH YOUR ORDER

What should I do if I believe my product has arrived damaged?

If you notice any damage upon delivery, please document the issue with photos and contact our customer service team immediately. Prompt communication allows us to assess the situation and find the best solution for you. We’re committed to ensuring your flooring arrives in perfect condition and will work quickly to resolve any concerns.

Can I cancel or return my order?

Because our flooring is made-to-order, cancellations and returns are generally not accepted once production has begun. However, if you need to make changes to your order, please reach out to our team as soon as possible, and we’ll do our best to assist. If you have any concerns about your order, we’re here to help.

INSTALLATION

How should the flooring be installed appropriately?

Our flooring should be installed according to the National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) guidelines to ensure proper performance and longevity. We recommend working with a professional installer who follows these industry standards. For more details, please visit the NWFA website.

Can I install the flooring myself?

We do not recommend DIY installation. To ensure the best results, we strongly advise hiring a professional flooring installer with experience in hardwood flooring. Proper installation is key to the long-term durability and beauty of your floors.

Do I need to acclimate the flooring?

Yes, all flooring should acclimate for 7–14 days in the temperature-controlled environment where it will be installed. This allows the wood to adjust to the humidity and conditions of your space, reducing the risk of expansion, contraction, or warping after installation.

Is this flooring compatible/safe to use with radiant heating?

Solid hardwood flooring is not suitable for installation over radiant heating systems, as temperature fluctuations can cause movement in the wood. If you require flooring that works with radiant heat, please contact our team for alternative recommendations.
